Wilmer Flores receives standing ovation, tears up on infield over trade that never happened

HardballTalk

Unique situation Wednesday night at Citi Field. As the game between the Padres and Mets was entering the later innings, rumors were flying that infielder Wilmer Flores and pitcher Zack Wheeler were going to be heading to the Brewers for Carlos Gomez. The trade was said to be done, pending physicals, and Flores received a nice ovation from Mets fans when he stepped to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning …

Flores then broke into tears when he took the field in the top of the eighth inning, thinking he was finished in a Mets uniform. But the Mets had serious concerns about the stability of Gomez’s left hip after receiving his medical records and New York general manager Sandy Alderson announced immediately after the game that the trade had been called off. It’s not going to be revisited either.
